Ondene’s teaching and research began at Stellenbosch University in South Africa in the field of Linguistics – the focus of her PhD at Radboud University Nijmegen was at the interface of syntax of sociolinguistics, while her later research focused on child language development and impairment. Ondene joined EIT in 2016, initially working in programme development and academic quality assurance, before taking on the Head of School role for the School of Health and Sport Science. Ondene has a keen interest in figuring out how the full potential of WIL may be harnessed for the benefit of both students and industry, optimising graduates’ work readiness. She believes that key to this endeavour is utilising an appropriate range of types of WIL, each with its own academic merits and catering to students with a variety of needs in terms of academic and pastoral support. Ondene is also interested in a range of effective assessment methods for WIL, to ensure that teaching staff and industry partners are able to assess students’ achievement of learning outcomes in a consistent, valid and reliable manner.
